1)   How often do I need to visit Back2Health: Spinal Fitness for best results?

We recommend 1 session per week for almost all cases.   After 6 months it is possible that bi-weekly intense workouts will work best for the low back, as MedX equipment is so isolatory that the strength of that muscle group will have peaked.   However, the neck can be trained more frequently, and this is something we will look at on a case by case basis.  Most chose to continue their weekly sessions, but alternating between easy and hard workouts with the low back as more frequent muscle pumping works well for pain relief.

2)   How quickly will I feel relief from my nagging back and/or neck pain?

Many feel relief from the first session - in fact, a majority of first time users exit the MedX low back piece and comment that their back feels better than it has in years.   Meanwhile, the MedX Four-Way Neck machine seems to lubricate the neck, as movement in all directions becomes easier.   The reason behind this phenomena is that such direct and targeted activity to the muscles that support the spine draws in fresh nutrients via increased blood flow to the area, and simultaneously flushes out waste product.  This immediate relief is a bonus, as regular usage must occur to obtain full benefit.

It is possible that one may never be 'pain free' - ask many who have undergone low back surgery - but with the choice between 'more or equal pain' and 'less pain', most will surely choose the latter.

3)   Will I feel any discomfort in the days following my sessions at B2H?

Some will, some won't - this isn't something we can predict.   A few people have felt a great deal of discomfort for a day or two following their first sessions, but then within a   few weeks of regular, weekly use, felt great.   Some of this may have to do with the muscles pulling the spine back into proper alignment, making things more uncomfortable than traditional exercise.   All exercise can be viewed as rehabilitational and/or preventative, and the reward for pushing through some discomfort at first is less pain overall and improved function down the road.

It is very important, however, that you let your trainer/therapist know of any discomfort, either during or post-exercise.   While most of it is simply muscular discomfort, there may be issues that preclude using an exercise through it's full range of motion, but where a particular segment can be worked and to great benefit.

4)   Why do things like yard work (i.e., raking, mowing the lawn) still bother my back after using the MedX equipment for a few weeks?

Becoming stronger will allow you to perform those tasks better, and for a longer period of time.   Just a few weeks into a program at B2H should find you showing signs of this, but not completely 'there' yet.   It is also important to realize that some factors (age being one of them) can interfere with progress, to the point that there is only so much one can do - but some pain relief through increased strength is better than none.

5)   If I go to another facility that has equipment that looks like MedX, will I receive the same benefit?

Unfortunately, no.   The muscles of the low back are impossible to target without neutralizing the stronger hips and thighs.     The same can be said with the muscles that rotate the torso and move the neck - all can be assisted in movement by stronger areas, areas which then take the brunt of the effort unless restrained properly.  Only MedX has patented restraint systems, guaranteeing you the highest degrees of spinal isolation.

What will happen is that strength gained may carry over for a few weeks on inferior equipment, but eventually strength gained through MedX will be lost without isolation, and one needs to start over.   If scheduling sessions becomes difficult, let us know and we can experiment to determine if less frequent workouts can still be effective at keeping you pain free.
